Josh Groban is “shaking” after being blocks away from Tuesday’s terror attack in New York City. The singer tweeted that the incident was “half a block” from where he was set to have coffee before his dog pulled him in another direction.

Just before a truck plowed into pedestrians and cyclists on a path on the west side of Lower Manhattan, Groban tweeted about being out with his dog on a normal afternoon.

Three minutes later, the singer shared, “Oh my god I just heard gun shots and ran with my dog. Downtown. F**k.” He added:

News reports initially claimed that multiple people were shot near the West Side Highway and Chambers Street in New York City. Groban, 36, revealed that he had been nearby minutes before the incident occurred.

Groban then posted a video he had taken of the madness in the area, praising first responders.

Eight people were killed when they were struck by the suspect’s vehicle, and a dozen others have been reported injured. At a news conference, New York Police Department Commissioner James O’Neill said the 29-year-old suspect, who was apprehended, “exited the vehicle brandishing two handguns.” A paintball gun and a pellet gun were later recovered at the scene.

Groban clarified his remarks on Twitter about the “gun shots” he had referred to. “Didn’t see shots only heard. They came from police apparently,” he replied to one fan, adding, “I never identified a shooter only said I heard shots. All true.”

Clarifying his tweet to another person, he said, “Yeah the shots I heard were a cop.” The acclaimed singer has tweeted his condolences and hope for his city.
