After a Joyful Run at The Box Office, ‘Inside Out 2’ Gets Digital and Blu-Ray Release Dates

Emotions at the box office have swung from anxiety to joy thanks to Inside Out 2, which has already cemented itself as the highest-grossing animated film of all time. Its theatrical run isn’t over yet, but the film now has a release date for digital and Blu-Ray. Inside Out 2 will be available to buy or rent digitally on Prime Video, Apple TV+, and other streamers on August 20.

Fans of physical media can pick up the 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray, and DVD releases on September 10. The film will also be released as a collectible SteelBook Blu-Ray edition. Notably absent is streaming; Disney+ doesn’t yet have a release date for Inside Out 2 due to the studio’s self-imposed 100-day release window. The film was released in mid-June, meaning the earliest Inside Out 2 could land on Disney+ would be late September.
Set two years after Inside Out, Inside Out 2 follows the anthropomorphized emotions of Riley Anderson, now the ever-fraught age of 13. Amy Poehler reprises her role as Joy, and new emotions include Maya Hawke as Anxiety, Ayo Edebiri as Envy, Adèle Exarchopoulos as Ennui, and Paul Walter Hauser as Embarrassment.
Rolling Stone’s David Fear praised Inside Out 2, placing in the upper tier of Pixar sequels. He noted, “The good news is that this sequel is wise enough to know where and how to build on the initial premise of that first movie, but doesn’t strain itself trying to top it — a curse that has toppled too many No. 2s to count.”
