Judd Apatow’s Next Film is Coca Cola Drama

As we've previously reported, a new movie about the battle between Coke and Pepsi is coming. The name? Cola Wars.

It's set to be directed by Judd Apatow (Knocked Up) and chronicles the decades-long battle between Pepsi and Coke to reign supreme as the world’s number one soft drink.

Based on a true story, Cola Wars cover every major milestone of the pop culture-dominating war, from Michael Jackson getting accidentally set on fire at the MTV Music Awards, to the failed experiment with New Coke, which was quietly abandoned after it sold disastrously.

Apatow directs, with Steven Spielberg signed on as producer through his company Amblin Entertainment. The picture itself is in development at Sony.

While Coca-Cola was introduced in 1886, approximately 136 years ago, Cola Wars primarily takes place in the mid-1980s. This is when the Cola Wars raged, an era involving countless celebrity endorsements (Madonna, Michael J Fox), high-profile controversies, and backroom deals.

Jason Shuman and Ben Queen are currently on writing duties. Shuman co-created and co-wrote Apple drama Acapulco and was executive producer on HBO’s Winning Time, while Queen wrote Pixar's Cars 2 and Cars 3.

It’s the latest in a long line of movies exploring brand culture. Last year, Ben Affleck’s Air detailed the rise of Michael Jordan’s signature trainer, while Flamin' Hot told the true story of a janitor at Frito Lay who invented Flamin' Hot Cheetos.
