Juelz Santana Has Thoughts On Lil Yachty’s Claim That Atlanta Sets The Most Trends In Hip-Hop
Harlem’s own Juelz Santana couldn’t help but call out Atlanta native Lil Yachty over comments he made asserting the southern city sets the most trends in modern day Hip-Hop.
Lil Boat first made his claims on an episode of his A Safe Place podcast, where he spoke to New Yorker Cash Cobain about his sound being influenced by Atlanta’s music scene. After speaking of the musical influence of artists like Young Thug and Migos, the conversation turned towards fashion.
“Everyone used to just kinda copy Atlanta. You said it yourself,” Yachty told the “Rump Punch” rapper around the 47:40 minute mark. “You just said even like the influence was extremely heavy from Atlanta. … As far as style goes, I don’t think it’s sh*t going on when it comes to New York fashion.” He also called out The Bronx specifically for the borough’s poor fashion choices.
He then added, “I think Atlanta ni**as dress terrible, too. It’s just me, myself, and I. I stand on the hill alone. That’s all I know. I can’t speak for anyone else other than myself.”
New Yorkers immediately began calling out the “Up Now” rapper, with many pointing out brands and ‘fits of his that were first worn by NYC natives.
Niggas don’t know New York for doing anything else than getting fly and every day ya bum ass down south niggas get online to try to act like we ain’t invent half the shit ya doing today, decades ago. Stop it man. There’s no Fashion Week in Atlanta, DC or Chicago. Ya niggas dress…

Yachty later addressed the backlash on TikTok, giving props to NYC for its past influence while sticking to his claim that Atlanta is more influential in 2024.
“A lot of the flyest people in the world were born in New York, that’s a fact, but, c’mon. As of lately, Atlanta! When it comes to the flyest, trendsetting people, Atlanta.”
In a separate clip, he recognizes Wu-Tang and Dipset as being heavily influential, but again, not by 2024 standards. Dipset member Juelz Santana later took to his Instagram to share his thoughts, naming several stylish New Yorkers like Fabolous, A$AP Rocky and fellow Dipset member Jim Jones while asserting Yachty is attempting to “erase us from history.”
“No luv lost bro but, NEVER MIND!!!! PS @souljaboy, I Don’t Want No [smoke emoji], y’all got it. @jimjonescapo they tryin to erase us from history.”
He went on to add, “Ni**as just say what they want nowadays” before claiming that the flyest people in Atlanta moved there from NYC. Check out the post below.
