Julie Bowen Just Dropped a Big Spoiler About “Happy Gilmore 2”: 'I Think I'm Allowed to Say That...'
The actress said she can reveal "absolutely zero" about the long-awaited sequel
Julie Bowen is spilling about Happy Gilmore 2.
While on Today With Hoda & Jenna on Thursday, Sept. 12, the Modern Family alum, 54, talked about returning for the sequel nearly 30 years after the original 1996 Adam Sandler comedy.
Co-host Jenna Bush Hager joked, "You can probably tell us zero" about the new movie, currently filming in New Jersey, to which Bowen confirmed, "Absolutely zero."
Bowen played Virginia Venit in the original, the love interest to Sandler's titular hockey star-turned-golfer. "Are y’all [still] together?" Hager, 42, asked. Said Bowen, "Yes, we are very much together." The co-host then joked, "Oh, you just told us a spoiler alert!"
"Is that bad? No. That… You can put that… I think I’m allowed to say that!" added Bowen.

Happy Gilmore was "the first movie I ever did," said Bowen, who recalled, "I really was uncomfortable with my hair in it. Really uncomfortable with it. I remember sort of crying in my trailer saying, ‘No one’s gonna see it, it’s okay.’ I’m like, no one’s going to see it? It’s the only movie my dad has watched over and over again!"
Hager called the original film "iconic," adding that "one of the reasons is because of the late Bob Barker. I know that was one of your favorite parts."
"It was one of my favorites. In this scene, he has to say, ‘The price is wrong, [bitch]’ and he said he didn’t want to say that because he’s such a gentleman. But they shot this for hours and hours and hours on this beautiful golf course in Vancouver. And by the end of the day, he’s so into it. He’s like, ‘The price is wrong, [bitch]!’ It was great."

In addition to Sandler, 58, and Bowen, also returning is costar Christopher McDonald. The cast of the Netflix sequel also includes Benito Martínez Ocasio (a.k.a. Bad Bunny), and NFL star Travis Kelce is said to make an appearance.
On Sept. 9, Sandler teased that production on the comedy is underway, sharing a photo on Instagram of the iconic hockey jersey. "It ain’t over. The way I see it… we’ve only just begun," he wrote in the caption.
