Juliette Lewis & Mamoudou Athie To Topline Body Swap Pic ‘By Design’ From Amanda Kramer
EXCLUSIVE: Juliette Lewis (Yellowjackets) and Mamoudou Athie (Kinds of Kindness) lead the cast of By Design, a new indie feature written and directed by Amanda Kramer (Please Baby Please), which has wrapped production in Los Angeles.
Others in the cast include Samantha Mathis (The Exorcism), Robin Tunney (Dear Edward), Clifton Collins Jr. (Jockey), Udo Kier (Swan Song) and Betty Buckley (Eternity).

While plot details are being kept under wraps, the film has been described as a twist on the body swap genre.
Miranda Bailey and Natalie Whalen from Cold Iron Pictures (Swiss Army Man, The Diary of a Teenage Girl) produced alongside Sarah Winshall of Smudge Films (I Saw the TV Glow), Jacob Agger, and Amanda Kramer. Lauren Mann, Jason Beck, Madison McKinley, James Belfer, Karen Belfer, and Riccardo Maddalosso served as executive producers.
An Oscar nominee currently starring in Showtime’s hit drama Yellowjackets, which is heading into its third season, Lewis will next be seen starring opposite Peter Dinklage in the critically acclaimed dark western thriller The Thicket. She’s also signed on to star alongside Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich in Opus, a horror pic marking the first feature of writer-director Mark Anthony Green, which will be financed and produced by A24.
Most recently seen starring in Yorgos Lanthimos’s Kinds of Kindness, Athie’s other recent credits include Prime Video’s The Burial, Jurassic World Dominion, and animated features Elemental and The Boy and the Heron. The Emmy nominee can currently be seen in Good Bones, directed by Saheem Ali, at The Public Theater.
Kramer’s most recent narrative feature, the musical drama Please Baby Please, opened the International Film Festival at Rotterdam and won the Grand Jury Prize at Outfest, hitting theaters in 2022. Andrea Riseborough, Harry Melling, Karl Glusman and Demi Moore starred. Most recently helming the documentary So Unreal, narrated by Debbie Harry, which premiered domestically at Fantastic Fest and internationally at Rotterdam, she’s also been behind titles like Give Me Pity!, Ladyworld and Paris Window.
