'She just crossed the line.' Readers react to Roseanne Barr’s racist tweet
“It’s always a ‘joke’ after the backlash.” “Sometimes SORRY just doesn’t cut it.” The fallout has been swift and severe for Roseanne Barr’s racist comment on Twitter: the “Roseanne” reboot has been canceled and fans are outraged, including thousands of Yahoo commenters.
In the now-deleted post, the comedian referred to former Barack Obama advisor Valerie Jarret as the “offspring of the ‘Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes.’” Facing immediate backlash, Barr apologized: “I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me — my joke was in bad taste.” But it was too little too late.
I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste.

Thousands of Yahoo readers expressed their outrage. “She just crossed the line again. I’M DONE.” Another commenter wrote, “Is anyone really surprised that Roseanne said something offensive?”
Lol at everyone complicit in the Roseanne reboot acting like somehow her tweet is separate from the despicable worldview they were giving a mouthpiece to

Wanda Sykes, a consulting producer on the ABC sitcom, quit following Barr’s racist comment. Co-star and co-producer Sara Gilbert condemned the comments. And then the network lowered the boom: “Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” said ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey.
I apologize. I am now leaving Twitter.

Barr returned to Twitter late Tuesday night, blaming Ambien for her outburst. “It was 2 in the morning and I was ambien tweeting,” she posted. “I made a mistake I wish I hadn’t but…don’t defend it please.”
