Justin Timberlake breaks silence following arrest: ‘Sometimes I’m hard to love’
CHICAGO (WJW) – Justin Timberlake has made his first public comments since his arrest for allegedly driving while intoxicated.
Timberlake, 43, told a crowd on a tour stop that he had had a “tough week.”
Billy Joel reacts to Justin Timberlake’s DWI arrest in the Hamptons: ‘Judge not’
“We’ve been through ups and downs and lefts and rights,” he told the crowd at his concert in Chicago on Friday, according to Today.com. “I know sometimes I’m hard to love, but you keep on loving me, and I’m going to love you right back.”
Timberlake didn’t specifically mention the arrest.
An officer in the Hamptons on the East End of Long Island said he saw Timberlake run a stop sign and fail to stay in his lane on two occasions, according to a complaint from the Sag Harbor Police Department.
Police said Timberlake’s “eyes were bloodshot and glassy, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating form his breath, he was unable to divide attention, he had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot, and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests.”
Timberlake told officers he had “one martini” and reportedly refused to take a breath test. Hours after being taken into custody, Timberlake appeared in court, where he was arraigned and released without bond.
Justin Timberlake’s attorney responds to Long Island DWI arrest
In a statement to Nexstar’s KTLA following Timberlake’s arrest, Edward Burke Jr., his attorney, said he looks “forward to vigorously defending Mr. Timberlake on these allegations.”
“I will have a lot to say at the appropriate time but am currently awaiting full discovery from the District Attorney’s office,” he added.
Timberlake’s next court date is scheduled for July 26, but he doesn’t have to appear in person. That works out in his favor, since he is scheduled to bring his ‘Forget Tomorrow World Tour’ to Kraków, Poland, on that day.
Before traveling overseas, Timberlake is scheduled to perform in New York City; Boston; Baltimore; Hersey, Pennsylvania; Cleveland; and Lexington, Kentucky.
