Justin Timberlake Sees “The Play That Goes Wrong” in N.Y.C. a Week After Jessica Biel Saw It (Exclusive)

Justin Timberlake takes wife Jessica Biel’s recommendations seriously!

A source tells PEOPLE that Timberlake, 43, recently saw the Off-Broadway show The Play That Goes Wrong, a week after Biel, 42, took their sons Silas, 9, and Phineas, 4, to the show.

On Sunday, Sept. 1, Biel, Silas and Phineas saw the comedy, and the 7th Heaven alum “loved the show so much and wanted to come back,” the source tells PEOPLE.

Then, on Wednesday, Sept. 11, Timberlake returned with Silas and two others to watch the play’s matinee showing.

"Justin was laughing all along, and was one of the first to stand up at the curtain call," the insider says.

The Play That Goes Wrong, now open at the New World Stages, is described as a combination of Monty Python and Sherlock Holmes. “The troupe’s ambitious 1920s whodunit has everything you never want in a show: falling props, collapsing scenery, an unconscious leading lady, a corpse that can’t play dead, and actors who trip over everything…including their lines,” reads the official synopsis.

The couple’s separate viewings were followed by the news that Timberlake reached a plea deal to a less serious offense in his DWI case on Wednesday, Sept. 11, PEOPLE confirmed.

The “Mirrors” singer was arrested in Sag Harbor, N.Y., on June 18 and charged with driving while intoxicated. The “Selfish” singer was booked on one count of DWI and two citations — one for running a stop sign and one for failure to keep in lane. His lawyer Edward Burke Jr. has maintained that Timberlake was “not intoxicated” when he was arrested.

Then, at an August hearing, Timberlake's license was suspended for a year in the state of New York, which his attorney said was “standard with every DUI.”

A source told PEOPLE on Wednesday that the Grammy winner was motivated to accept “a plea deal because he wants to move on.”

“He’s a family man, and this is his focus,” the source told PEOPLE. “The court case has been a distraction. He doesn’t want his family to be affected by it.”

In late June, shortly after the incident, a source told PEOPLE that Timberlake and Biel had “moved on from the arrest” and were focused on work, with him on tour and her shooting the upcoming Prime Video series The Better Sister.

Biel is filming the TV series in New York City. Meanwhile, Timberlake is on his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, which will continue through June 2025. He is next scheduled to play on Sept. 28 in Newark, N.J.
