K-Dramas Coming to Netflix in January 2024: Gyeongseong Creature, The Matchmakers, Doctor Slump & More
January 2024 brings a K-drama fest to Netflix with many popular dramas and some of the much-awaited series. The new year promises to bring in a variety of K-dramas, some newer ones while the others air their subsequent seasons. On January 3, 2024, Netflix released the official list of K-dramas making their way to the platform in the first month of 2024.
Some dramas, including The Matchmakers, Korea-Khitan War, and more, that weren’t previously available on Netflix will make their debut on the platform in January 2024. Moreover, the much-awaited apocalyptic thriller Gyeongseong Creature will air its second part on January 5, 2024. Many other popular series will also be available to stream for avid K-drama fans.

Gyeongseong Creature
Gyeongseong Creature, starring Park Seo-Joon and Han So-Hee, follows the story of a rich pawnshop owner and a sleuth. Set in 1945 in Korea, which was still under Japanese colonial rule, the duo collaborated on a mission, which led them into an ominous hospital. They slowly discover the dark truths hidden in the hospital and encounter a mysterious but dangerous creature that wreaks havoc in their lives. The first part of the series aired successfully and will premiere part 2 on Netflix on January 5, 2024.
The Matchmakers
The Matchmakers is a popular South Korean drama that premiered on October 30, 2023, on KBS and Viki. The series follows the story of young widow named Jung Soon-Deok (Cho Yi-Hyun), who leads a double life as a matchmaker in the Joseon Era. She comes into touch with the king’s son-in-law, Shim Jung-Woo (Rowoon), whose bride died moments after he tied the knot. The duo team up to find partners for men and women for individuals crossing the marriageable age. The drama will soon be available on Netflix.
Doctor Slump
Doctor Slump is a much-awaited JTBC K-drama that will premiere on January 27, 2024. The series follows the story of two high-school rivals—Yeo Jung-Woo (Park Hyung-Sik) and Nam Ha-Neul (Park Shin-Hye). The two reunite years later during the worst phases of their lives. It is during their personal and professional slumps that they find each other and fall in love. The drama marks Park Hyung-Sik and Park Shin-Hye’s reunion on screen after a decade when they were seen on The Heirs. The drama will be available on Netflix after it airs on JTBC.
Through the Darkness
Through the Darkness is an SBS drama that follows the story of a criminal profiler Song Ha-Young (Kim Nam-Gil). According to Viki, the series is loosely based on a non-fiction book written by Korea’s first criminal profiler. The drama features Song Ha-Young trying to understand the behavioral aspects of a serial killer and digging deep into the human mind. The series was released on January 14, 2022, and is available to stream on Netflix.
Korea-Khitan War
The Korea-Khitan War is a historical K-drama on KBS that premiered on November 11, 2023. The series follows the 26-year-long war between Goryeo, an emerging state, and the Khitan Empire, a great power of the time. The drama documents the story of how King Hyeonjong (Kim Dong-Jun), who had been away from politics, ended up leading the war. He ultimately unifies Goryeo with the help of 70-year-old subject and teacher Gang Gam-Chan (Choi Soo-Jong). The K-drama will soon be available on Netflix.
Captivating the King
Captivating the King is an upcoming tvN drama that is set to release on January 21, 2024. The series follows the story of Lee-In (Jo Jung-Suk), who becomes a king due to strained circumstances and endures power struggles. Meanwhile, he meets a balduk (Go) player named Kang Hee-Soo (Shin Se-Kyung). The two eventually fall in love with each other, but things change when Hee-Soo becomes a spy and approaches the king to seek revenge. The drama will be available on Netflix after the episode airs on tvN.
Many other dramas and movies will be making their way to Netflix in January 2024. These include the miniseries The Bequeathed, Dong Lee’s (Ma Deong-Seok) post-apocalyptic film Badland Hunters, and more.
