Kaavia James Joyfully Celebrates 'Scorpio Szn' in a Sassy New Video With Mom Gabrielle Union
Those of you who know Kaavia James know she’s always in “Shady Baby Szn,” but now she and her mom Gabrielle Union are preparing a season that’s especially meaningful season for both of them: Scorpio season! The iconic mother and daughter have the same horoscope sign, with Union being born at the end of October and 5-year-old Kaavia celebrating her birthday in early November.
Union just shared a roundup of videos and photos on Instagram showing just how ready she and her daughter — who she shares with Dwyane Wade (a Capricorn!) — are for this special time of year.

In the opening video, she takes a mirror selfie of the two of them sassily dancing to “She’s a Bad Mama Jama.” Kaavia pops out from behind her mom, removes her sweater with flair, and grooves along to Carl Carlton. They both happily wave their hands in the air before waving goodbye to the captive audience. It’s a perfect display of how passionate and creative Scorpios can be.
“Caution: scorpio szn ahead ??,” the actress captioned the post.
Next up is a sweet selfie of Union, Wade, and their daughter posing in front of their Halloween decorations (which include a giant skeleton and its skeleton dog!). Kaavia looks so tall in each photo.
Not to be that person, but it seems like she grew a foot overnight! And we probably shouldn’t be surprised. Her dad is a 6′ 4″ NBA Hall of Famer. She almost reaches her mom’s chest, and when her dad picks her up, her legs dangle all the way down to his mid-thigh.
“She was literally JUST A BABY!!! ??????????????,” one commenter said of the tall and sassy soon-to-be 6-year-old.
Union — who is also stepmom/aunt to Wade’s kids and nephew Zaya, Zaire, Xavier, and Dahveon — told Drew Barrymore in March 2022 that she and her husband want fans to see all sides of Kaavia on social media.
“[We want to] show a free Black girl in all her moods, whether her hair is done, not done … whether she’s got the cutest outfit on or she’s still in her pajamas on a Saturday evening, we wanted people to see what free Black girlhood looks like.”
