Kaavia James Was ‘Shedding Tears’ Over This Moment Between Her Parents Gabrielle Union & Dwyane Wade
Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade’s daughter Kaavia is truly their number one fan, and her reaction to their wedding anniversary celebrations proves it.
On Aug 30, Kaavia’s Instagram page shared a series of photos from Union and Wade’s anniversary. She shared the photos with the caption reading, “Happy Anniversary mommy & daddy! ?????? P.S. Mommy’s song had me shedding tears it was so beautiful ??????.”

In the first few photos, we see the loving family of three with snapshots of Union and Wade posing together, Wade kissing the top of Kaavia’s head, and Kaavia snuggling against her mom.
We also get a snapshot of Kaavia being teary-eyed over Union’s song (which we’ll get to in a moment). Then, we end with a photo of Union rocking her sparkling pink gown and Union in her fringe yellow dress, followed by a pic of Kaavia holding hands with her papa!
Okay, so if you’re confused, we got you: Union and Wade celebrated their 10-year anniversary with a celebration packed with friends, family, and Kaavia as a flower girl! Also, Union sang a song to Wade (“You’re Still The One” by Shania Twain), which led Kaavia to tears of joy. If you want to hear Union’s performance, you can watch the video she uploaded to her Instagram HERE.
For those that don’t know, the You Got Anything Stronger? author and Wade welcomed their daughter Kaavia, 5, via a surrogate back in Nov. 2018.
Union is also the stepmom to Wade’s three kids Zaire, 22, Zaya, 17, and Xavier, 10. Along with that, Wade is the legal guardian of his nephew named Dahveon Morris, 22.
In a previous interview with SheKnows, the Bring It On star told us about how amazing it was to make Shady Baby, which was based on their daughter Kaavia.
“It’s been amazing. Inspired by our daughter, Kaavia, we wanted to create a children’s book that not only had a little Black girl as the main character but to also give the word ‘shady’ a more positive association, using it as her superpower, moral compass, and inner strength,” she said. “As a family, we also understand the platform that we have and the importance of doing right for our community. That’s why we get involved in various initiatives to help give back to our community, whether it’s LGBTQ+ rights, advocating for diversity and inclusion in the workplace, or our Don’t Skip public health campaign.”
