Kamala Harris in favor of Republicans getting vaccine after downplaying COVID-19
Hours after President-elect Joe Biden got his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris appeared on The ReidOut where she showed support for Republicans who downplayed COVID doing the same. Senators Marco Rubio and Lindsey Graham received backlash online after they posted photos on Twitter of themselves getting early doses of the vaccine, after spending months parroting President Trump’s rhetoric on the pandemic. But, as many Americans are still skeptical of the vaccine, Harris believes that leaders from both parties getting it may urge others to get vaccinated.
I know I looked away from the needle
And yes, I know I need a tan
But I am so confident that the #Covid19 vaccine is safe & effective that I decided to take it myself pic.twitter.com/TQbog6fu7i— Marco Rubio (@marcorubio) December 19, 2020
Thank God for nurses who help people in need and know how to use a needle.
Thank God for those who produced these vaccines.
If enough of us take it, we will get back to normal lives.

When asked about it by host Joy Reid, Harris answered, “Honestly, Joy, I want that everyone gets it. We could talk about where they’ve been on the issue, but I hope and I believe that anybody who’s in a position of leadership right now should be urging all Americans, again, regardless of their party affiliation, should be encouraging them that when it is their time, they should get this vaccine.” Harris added, “The reality is that it is literally about saving lives. It is literally about saving life.”
On a night when Congress passed a bipartisan COVID relief bill, Harris said that lawmakers, especially those who have repeatedly downplayed the pandemic but hopped to the front of the line for the vaccine, need to remember that they still have a duty to make sure the vaccine will be available for all Americans.
“I hope that all of those people who you are speaking of understand it is their responsibility, I dare say their moral responsibility, to understand that the American people deserve just what they got,” Harris said. “Which is to have that vaccine and have it distributed in a way that everyone, regardless of where they live, can get it.”
