Move over Maya Rudolph as the real-life Kamala Harris is set to make a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live, a source familiar with the matter told The Hollywood Reporter.

Her expected appearance comes just days ahead of Election Day as the battle for the next four years of the White House closes in. The vice president will join John Mulaney, who is hosting the upcoming episode, alongside musical guest Chappell Roan.

Earlier Saturday, speculation was circulating on social media of a surprise Harris cameo on NBC’s sketch comedy show as her plane, bound for Michigan, had been diverted to New York City for an unannounced stop. She was campaigning in the battleground states of Georgia and North Carolina earlier in the day.

The vice president’s pool report said Saturday afternoon that her motorcade arrived at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, where SNL is tapped, at 8:03 p.m. ET.

Aside from there only being a few days left until Election Day, Harris’ SNL appearance also comes as a bit of a shocker as SNL creator Lorne Michaels previously told THR that he hadn’t reached out to the real-life candidates and didn’t intend to before the 2024 election.

“You can’t bring the actual people who are running on because of election laws and the equal time provisions,” Michaels said at the time and then clarified: “You can’t have the main candidates without having all the candidates, and there are lots of minor candidates that are only on the ballot in, like, three states and that becomes really complicated.”

Since SNL‘s season 50 kicked off in September, Rudolph has been playing Harris. As for her running mate Tim Walz and husband Douglas Emhoff, they have been portrayed by Jim Gaffigan and Andy Samberg, respectively.
