Kaniehtiio Horn Battles to Save People’s Legacy in ‘Seeds’ Trailer
Reservation Dogs star Kaniehtiio Horn plays a cat-and-mouse game with a home intruder looking to steal her family’s spiritual legacy in the trailer for Seeds, which dropped on Friday.
The release of the teaser comes as Horn’s directorial debut has its world premiere Friday at the Toronto Film Festival. “War has been declared and do you know what my people did to our enemies during wartime?” Horn, who plays Ziggy, a young Kanienkehaka (Mohawk) woman, says at one point in the trailer while brandishing a rifle on her reservation and ancestral lands to protect her aunt’s cache of seeds from a menacing thief named Bondsman.

Eventually, the seeds hold a totemic power as they come to represent Ziggy’s family’s indigenous legacy, and she discovers her inner warrior to hold on to them. The tense thriller with comic overtones marks Horn’s first effort in the director’s chair after breaking out as the Deer Lady on FX’s Reservation Dogs and Tanis on Hulu’s Letterkenny.
Fellow Reservation Dogs actor Dallas Goldtooth appears in the trailer as Ziggy’s cousin. The film’s cast includes Graham Greene, Patrick Garrow, Meegwun Fairbrother, Dylan Cook and Bonnie Whitlow. Seeds is produced by Leonard Farlinger and Jennifer Jonas of New Real Films, with Eva Thomas executive producing along with Horn and Laurie Venning.
LevelFILM is set to release Seeds theatrically in Canada on Oct. 25. The 2024 Toronto Film Festival is set to run through Sept. 15.
