Kanye West says God is using him, the choir and his family to 'show off'
Kanye West made a surprise appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in Brooklyn on Thursday night, to promote his new album Jesus Is King, and, while there, West told Jimmy Kimmel how his perspective on having a family has changed since last year.
West shared that he loves the fact that his daughter, North West, wants to go to church, and has a positive association with attending. "Now that God has called me, and I now have given my life to Jesus Christ, and I work for God. Now we have Christian innovation in our time," said West.
West told Kimmel, "I have a family. I have four children. I've been married for five years. And the perspective, because you asked me a question last year, did having a daughter change my life, and I've completely turned around from what my perspective was last year to where it is now. And I feel like there's so few individuals in a position like mine to be able to give their opinion and stand up and say that this is what family is about, and I feel that God is using me, and using the choir, using my family to show off."
Earlier on Thursday, Apple Music's Beats 1 released an interview between West and host Zane Lowe, where the rapper explained how his 2016 hospitalization was the catalyst to the spiritual journey he's been on.
“Now that I’m in service to Christ, my job is to spread the gospel, to let people know what Jesus has done for me,” stated West. “I’ve spread a lot of things. There was a time I was letting you know what high fashion had done for me, I was letting you know what the Hennessey had done for me, but now I’m letting you know what Jesus has done for me, and in that I’m no longer a slave, I’m a son now, a son of God. I’m free.” On Kimmel, West reiterated those words.
"We're in complete service to God, and the business is thriving," said West.
West also shared a short clip from the new album's companion IMAX film, and announced that he will return to Jimmy Kimmel Live! Friday night for a special performance from Jesus is King.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on ABC.
