Karlie Kloss and Joshua Kushner buy Malibu’s iconic Wave House for $29.5M
Supermodel Karlie Kloss and her husband, the venture capitalist Joshua Kushner, have purchased Rod Stewart’s former Malibu home, the Wave House.
Kloss and Kushner, who is the brother of Jared Kushner, paid $29.5 million for the midcentury-modern property, which is believed to have inspired the look of the Sydney Opera House, the Wall Street Journal first reported. The residence first asked $49.5 million when it listed for sale last June.
Built in the 1950s by the late architect Harry Gesner, the home has become known as one of California’s most recognizable abodes for its giant wave appearance. (Gesner actually designed the house while on the water in front of the address, sketching his plans for it from his surfboard.)
Gesner originally built the six-bedroom, eight-bathroom residence for a local couple who owned an area lumberyard. Subsequent owners have included English rock star Rod Stewart and, most recently, the record executive Mo Ostin, who signed such acts as the Kinks and Jimi Hendrix while leading Warner Bros. Records.
Ostin passed away in 2022 at age 95; his estate handled the Wave House’s sale.
In addition to its unique, hand-cut copper shingle-topped facade, the 6,200-square-foot compound also features amenities including a beach-facing primary suite with a sauna, three vaulted “public rooms,” a conversation pit, a hot tub and a central fireplace, according to the listing. As well, there’s a separate building currently in use as a garage and a guest house.
“With its unique design and captivating atmosphere, the Wave House stands as a testament to the artistic vision of architect Harry Gesner and its enduring appeal in the real estate market,” Douglas Elliman co-listing rep Dena Luciano previously told The Post of the property. “It is awe-inspiring, while simultaneously evoking a sense of relaxation.”
Luciano represented the listing along with Chris Cortazzo and Zen Gesner — son of architect Harry Gesner — of Compass, and Drew Fenton of Carolwood Estates.
