Kate Hudson Made a Rare Comment About Her First Marriage to Chris Robinson & It's Heartbreaking
Fans might assume every Hollywood divorce is contentious, but Kate Hudson is here to set the record straight about her first marriage to Chris Robinson. The Almost Famous star made a rare comment about her split with The Black Crowes musician and why it didn’t work out for the long haul.
On the May 7 episode of SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show, Howard Stern made sure to get all of the tea about her not-often-discussed relationship with Robinson. “My relationship with Chris was so beautiful and there was so much love there, but I really did grow out of it, and it was a very hard breakup,” she revealed to Stern. “That was not an easy breakup; I was very in love with him, but it wasn’t going to be the rest of my life.”

Hudson was only 20 when she met the then-33-year-old rock star in New York. While outsiders might describe it as a whirlwind romance since they married in 2000 when she was only 21 years old, the Glass Onion actress told The World’s First Podcast in 2023 that it was much different from what fans believe. “It wasn’t even impulsive,” she explained. “People thought it was impulsive but I was just like ‘You know what, I’m going to dive right into this. I’m not going to second-guess it. I’m in love with him. I’m not going to pretend like, oh, we should wait. I’m madly in love, and I want to marry him.'”
But as she tells Stern, she had a lot of growing up to do. “I was like a baby. When my life really started to really take off and I wanted to go in different directions, we literally just weren’t in the same space to keep going,” she noted. She and Robinson share a son, Ryder, who was born in 2004, and she still has sweet things to say about her oldest child’s father. “Chris is brilliant — he’s brilliant and he’s really funny and he’s one of the great vocal instruments — incredible frontman, and with that comes this sort of life as a nomad and an artist that can be hard for relationships,” Hudson added.
Hudson and Robinson were married for seven years, and she still considers him part of the family. She also shares a son, Bingham, 12, with former fiancé Matt Bellamy, and a daughter, Rani, 5, with her current fiancé Danny Fujikawa.
