Kate Middleton’s Video Update Finally Gives Fans a Behind-The-Scene Look of How the Family Spends Their Downtime
Despite being literal royalty, Prince William, Catherine, Princess of Wales (also known as Kate Middleton), and their three kids are down-to-earth, and this super-rare new video even shows how surprisingly normal they are during their downtime.
On Sept 9, Kensington Palace shared a rare update on Kate, and her cancer journey. From the “message from Catherine, The Princess of Wales,” she revealed in the video taken by Will Warr, that she has ended chemotherapy and is focusing on staying cancer-free and being with her family.

They posted the video to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, showing so many touching clips of the family-of-five.
In the video, Kate gives a voiceover, showing the family’s outing. “As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment. The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown,” she said. “The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you. With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything.”
She added, “This time has above all reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved. Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.”
“I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can. Despite all that has gone before I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life,” she added in the video. “William and I are so grateful for the support we have received and have drawn great strength from all those who are helping us at this time. Everyone’s kindness, empathy and compassion has been truly humbling. To all those who are continuing their own cancer journey – I remain with you, side by side, hand in hand. Out of darkness, can come light, so let that light shine bright.”
Now, in the video itself, we see so many sweet moments with the family, including sharing how they actually spend time together when they’re not in the royal sphere. While we see cute moments of them being as prim and proper as they can be at official events, they’re kids and have adorable real moments. But with this video, it’s nothing but those sweet moments.
In the video, we see the family of five (including Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis) exploring the woods as a family, all of them cuddling and holding hands with one another throughout.
At one point, we see the wild card child Louis climbing a tree, playing on a swing with Kate, and even running around together. We also then see a clip of George seeing if the camera was on, with Louis asking “Hello?” and Charlotte laughing at the camera; how precious is that?!
We continue the video with clips of them climbing on logs in the forest, as well as playing card games with their grandparents Carole and Michael Middleton.
As if it couldn’t get any cuter, we also see the family having a picnic together, playing with their dogs and playing a card game. There’s also a sweet moment where there’s a bug on Charlotte and they all play with it, along with their proud parents smooching their kiddos.
We end the video by seeing them running through the ocean and a wheat field.
Not only does this video give fans a long-waited update on Kate’s treatment, but it finally gives fans an idea of how this family spends their downtime, away from the royal spotlight, and it’s as wonderful as we imagined.
For those who don’t know, William and Kate have been together on and off since 2003.
Since their nuptials, they have since welcomed three children named George, born in July 2013, Charlotte, born in May 2015, and Louis, born in April 2018.
In a previous podcast episode of Happy Mum, Happy Baby, hosted by Giovanna Fletcher, via Town and Country, Kate talked about how she incorporates her family traditions into her parenting.
“I had an amazing Granny who devoted a lot of time to us—playing with us, doing arts and crafts, and going to the greenhouse to do gardening, and cooking with us—and I try and incorporate a lot of the experiences that she gave us at the time into the experiences that I give my children now,” she said.
