Katherine Kelly Lang Talks Her Taylor-Made Emmy Nomination
Brooke Logan, played by Katherine Kelly Lang, has been involved in many triangles on Bold and the Beautiful over the years. However, the character took a different path for part of last year and as a result, Lang was nominated for a Daytime Emmy. She’s chatting with Soap Hub about her nomination.
Getting Off Her High Horse
Lang tells Soap Hub she was actually horseback riding up a mountain when she got the call that she’d been nominated once again for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the Daytime Emmys. “We had just finished getting to the top,” she recalls.
The actress decided to get off her horse to take the call — she’d had an accident once before while with her horse and she didn’t want that to occur again. “I always get nervous when I talk on the phone [and I’m on my horse],” Lang says. “I learned my lesson. My horse was, like, ‘What’s all this excitement about?’
“I was screaming and yelling on top of the mountain,” she says, joyful over the news of her nod. Lang adds that the nomination came as a bit of a surprise. “I didn’t expect it because I almost didn’t even submit,” she reveals.
Before she could throw her hat in the ring, Lang needed to select scenes for a submission reel. “It’s hard to pick the scenes that you think are worthy,” she says. “I went back and forth…do I put scenes together that will tell a story? Then, I just decided to submit two [shows] back-to-back that are the culmination of the Brooke and Taylor [Krista Allen] friendship [ending].
“It was definitely good writing and good storytelling,” she says. “Ridge [Thorsten Kaye] comes in towards the end and witnesses all of that. So, that’s what I ended up submitting. It got me a nomination and I’m happy about that.”
Lang wants to thank B&B’s Casey Kasprzyk, Supervising Producer, and Eva Basler Vice President, Communications & Talent Relations for helping he assemble her reel. “I think I put them through hell,” laughs Lang. “”Can I see this?’ Let’s try this?’ ‘Never mind! Let’s try something different!’ Then, I always go back to the first [idea]. I’m sure I drive them crazy. Maybe everyone does that? Thank you, Casey. Thank you, Eva!”
First and foremost, Katherine Kelly Lang thanks B&B’s executive producer Brad Bell whom she’s worked with since the show’s inception in 1987. “We were both kids when we started,” she says. “Now, we’re still working side by side and I love the opportunity. It all starts on the page. [Brad] is so great about coming up with the stories and keeping the audience tuning in — all around the world!”
The 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards are set to air on Friday, June 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and Paramount+.
