Katy Perry Gave Her Unfiltered Reaction to the Backlash of Her Working With Dr. Luke
Since announcing her new era in music, Katy Perry‘s comeback has been a bumpy ride. From fans scratching their heads after seeing her “Woman’s World” music video, to a potential lawsuit over the location of the “LIFETIMES” video, Perry has seen critiques from every angle. Most often, she’s been getting hate for working with one of her collaborators: Dr. Luke. And today, she finally reacted to it.
As a reminder, fans called her out for collaborating with Dr. Luke, a music producer who was sued by fellow singer Kesha in 2014 for sexual assault and battery, sexual harassment, gender violence, emotional abuse, and violation of California business practices, per NPR.

Despite initially not responding to the claims, Perry addressed the backlash directly in the latest episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast. “Look I understand that it started a lot of conversations and he was one of many collaborators that I collaborated with. But the reality is, it comes from me,” Perry told host Alex Cooper, per Variety.
“The truth is, I wrote these songs from my experience of my whole life going through this metamorphosis, and he was one of the people to help facilitate all that,” she continued. “[He’s] one of the writers, one of the producers. I am speaking from my own experience.”
In other words, Perry, who shares daughter Daisy Dove, 4, with partner Orlando Bloom, believes that the music in her new album, 143, is so personal to her that her collaborators shouldn’t be even considered when talking about the album.
“When I speak about Woman’s World, I speak about feeling so empowered now, as a mother, as a woman, giving birth, creating life, creating another set of organs. A brain! A heart! I created a whole a– heart! And I did it, and I’m still doing it,” she continued. “I’m still a matriarch and feeling really grounded in that, that’s where I’m speaking from.”
“So I created all of this with several different collaborators, people that I’ve collaborated with from the past, from the Teenage Dream era,” she said. “All of that.”
On social media, fans are continuing to go after Perry, claiming that her answer not only failed to address the question but minimized Dr. Luke’s alleged predatory behavior.
“Waittttttt….. so she still chose to work with Dr. Luke even though there were several collaborators she’s worked with in the past?” wrote one user on X. “As a MOTHER… she should know not to support predators,” wrote another. Looks like Perry won’t be in the clear with her fans anytime soon.
