Katy Perry Makes Wild Assertion on Who Should Replace Her on 'American Idol'
Katy Perry
Last Friday on Good Morning America, Katy Perry elaborated on her previous announcement that she was leaving American Idol—and what was interesting was she hinted that it may not be a permanent absence but maybe just for a season.
When asked who she would like to see replace her, she said, "Just someone that can put up with Luke [Bryan] and Lionel [Richie].” Then she added, "Keep my seat warm."
Then last night, in a conversation with E! following the reveal of the American Idol Top 14, Katy expanded on that even more as to who she would like to see fill the vacant judge's seat.

"I gotta say Jelly Roll was crazy when he came on the show," Katy told E! News. "I was convinced at anything he said. He could run for president, he could be my pastor, I might go back to church for him. He could sell me anything."
"So I love him," she continued of Jelly, who served as a mentor on the April 8 episode of Idol. "And to have any of these guys plus Jelly on the show would be amazing. I love you, Jelly!"
Of course, with Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan as the other two judges at the table, it might be a little testosterone-heavy to add Jelly Roll. Another woman to replace Katy seems to be the way to go.
But she also discussed some qualities that would be important in an American Idol judge.
"I want a truth teller," she added. "I want someone that is not afraid to tell the truth in a graceful way."

And, after the controversy Katy has experienced on social media for some of the comments she has made to contestants as they stand on the Idol oval awaiting their fate—a Golden Ticket to Hollywood or being sent home—she advises her replacement not to “read the comments” from haters.
"Unfortunately, when you're a woman and you have an opinion or you're a boss, sometimes you're also considered a B-I-T-C-[H]…so just someone that has a strong sense of self, that listens to their intuition."
American Idol returns next Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC when the Top 14 will be reduced to the Top 12.
