The Bill & Ted co-stars Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are set to head up a new take on Waiting for Godot on Broadway.

The production is set to open in New York City in fall 2025 from the acclaimed British director Jamie Lloyd, who has won four Olivier awards and has been nominated for two Tonys. His most recent Broadway credit saw him directing Jessica Chastain in a stripped-back version of A Doll’s House.

“We’re incredibly excited to be on stage together and work with the great Jamie Lloyd in one of our favorite plays,” the actors said in a joint statement.

Reeves and Winter originally starred together in 1989’s sci-fi comedy Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, playing two slackers who travel through time. Sequels were released in 1991 and 2020.

Reeves will play Estragon and Winter will be Vladimir.

“It is a real honor to be collaborating with the brilliant Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter on Samuel Beckett’s sublime masterpiece – one of the greatest plays of all time,” Lloyd said in a statement.

Winter appeared on Broadway in 1979 as a youth in productions of Peter Pan and The King & I. The show marks a Broadway debut for Reeves.

Waiting for Godot, which originally premiered in 1953, follows two acquaintances grappling with the meaning of life, a play that’s widely seen as one of the greatest ever written.

Previous productions have featured actors such as Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Robin Willians and Steve Martin. It is also set to return to the London stage this September with Lucian Msamati and Ben Whishaw.

Reeves was most recently seen on screen in the action sequel John Wick: Chapter Four and will next star in the Aziz Ansari-directed comedy Good Fortune opposite Seth Rogen. As a director, Winter recently began production on the comedy Adulthood in which he stars alongside Josh Gad.

The actors join other recently confirmed Hollywood stars heading to Broadway over the next year, including Denzel Washington, Robert Downey Jr, George Clooney and Jake Gyllenhaal.
