Keanu Reeves Could Return For Constantine 2

Keanu Reeves might be starring in a sequel to Constantine, according to reports.

The actor, who’s keeping busy with his much-loved role as deadly hitman John Wick, could very well return to a role he played years before in 2005. That role is Constantine, an exorcist with the ability to communicate with angels and demons from the afterlife.

"You know, it's in my inbox right now,” Constantine director Lorenzo di Bonaventura told ComicBook. “Funny enough, I'm too scared to read it, though. I want it to be good so bad.”

Currently, di Bonaventura has his hands tied with the release of Transformers One, but is already looking for his next project in Constantine 2. So, what’s the timeframe for getting started on those all-important script edits? “I'll probably read it in the next few days. When I get on an airplane."

Constantine is based on the DC comics series of the same name. However, it looks unlikely to be part of James Gunn's new DC Universe, which reboots next year with Superman. Tonally, Constantine is a lot darker, and introduces supernatural and religious elements.

That’s not to say DC wouldn’t release it, just that it wouldn’t fall under the DCU banner. Afterall, Joker: Folie a Deux and The Batman: Part 2 don’t exist in Gunn’s new DCU either. Reeves himself has yet to weigh in whether he’d return for a Constantine sequel.

The John Wick universe continues to produce. There’s a John Wick spinoff announced starring Donnie Yen, and even a John Wick anime in the works, says movie director Chad Stahelski.
