'Keep it': Why Disney fans aren't happy about a '101 Dalmatians' reboot starring Emma Stone as Cruella De Vil
Yet another Disney classic is getting a reboot, and many fans are fed up.
According to Deadline, Emma Stone is set to star in a live-action remake of 101 Dalmatians focusing on its fur-mad villain, Cruella De Vil. Titled Cruella, the film will reportedly serve as an origin story for De Vil against a 1980s “punk” backdrop.
While the news has generated a fair share of excitement, some film purists are balking — not because a reboot might step on the toes of the 1961 animated original, but because there’s already been a live-action version. Glenn Close played De Vil in 1996’s 101 Dalmatians and the 2000 sequel, 102 Dalmatians, and fans argue that her portrayal was so perfect that messing with it is madness.
There's talk about Emma Stone possibly getting the role of Cruella de Vill in 101 Dalmatians live action movie. Live action movie? Disney already made a "live action movie" back in 1996? Disney is just thirsty for money. This grinds my gears.

Folks are also quibbling over the 1980s timeline of the film, which may be directed by Craig Gillespie of I, Tonya fame. But who knows: Maybe a young, punk rock Cruella played by an Oscar winner is just the breath of fresh air this puppy classic needs.
