Kehlani gets restraining order against allegedly abusive ex
Kehlani has gotten a restraining order against ex Javaughn Young-White, whom the singer accused of physical, emotional and verbal abuse.
The 29-year-old Grammy nominee, who uses she/they pronouns, was granted a temporary restraining order as well as temporary sole custody of the former couple’s 5-year-old daughter, Adeya, according to new legal documents obtained by TMZ.
Pending a hearing next month, guitarist Young-White, 27, must stay at least 100 yards from both the “I Like Dat” singer and their little girl.
Kehlani, born Kehlani Ashley Parrish, claimed that Young-White was living in her back house and regularly getting high — on marijuana and mushrooms — in June, when he allegedly broke into her locked bedroom, calling her a “bitch,” a “liar” and blaming her for having “trapped” him with the birth of their daughter.
The alleged incident occurred after Kehlani said she asked Young-White about a letter he’d received regarding public assistance, and she promptly kicked him out.
Kehlani said Adeya would smell of marijuana after spending time with her dad in the back house, which her mom said was full of “weed, food, trash and debris,” TMZ reported. Kehlani also accused Young-White of sometimes being high in front of their daughter, during which he allegedly rants about religion. Sometimes, when Young-White picks up Adeya from school, Kehlani said they’re unaware where the pair go together.
News of the TRO comes on the heels of Young-White filing for full custody of Adeya on July 24 — and reported Aug. 5 — at which point he claimed Kehlani is part of a cult and raising Adeya in the group as well.
Just last week, Young-White walked back the “hurtful” and “careless” allegations against the Afro-Caribbean religion Kehlani previously practiced. Young-White noted at the time the custody petition had been “filed with choice language I didn’t okay.”
“I never said that I think Santeria is a sex cult,” Young-White said in his statement. “Nor did I say that my daughter is in a sex cult. That’s factually incorrect.”
Kehlani denied “any claims that I have put my child in harm’s way, or left my child alone with anyone deemed dangerous or unsafe.”
