Keke Palmer and SZA’s Buddy Comedy at TriStar Adds Dewayne Perkins, Amin Joseph, Gabrielle Dennis and DomiNque Perry (EXCLUSIVE)

TriStar Pictures’ untitled buddy comedy starring Keke Palmer and SZA is rounding out its cast with the addition of Dewayne Perkins, Amin Joseph, Gabrielle Dennis and DomiNque Perry.

Plot details and roles are still being kept under wraps for the project, which is written by Syreeta Singleton and directed by Lawrence Lamont.

Perkins is an Emmy-nominated writer, producer, actor and comedian who most recently starred in “The Blackening,” which he also wrote with Tracy Oliver. His other credits include the new Apple series “The Studio,” Netflix’s “The Upshaws,” and Peacock’s “Saved by the Bell.”

Actor and producer Joseph is best known for his work as Jerome “Unc” Saint in the FX series “Snowfall.” His other recent television credits include recurring roles in FX series “Justified: City Primeval” and “Send Help” for ALLBLK. Additional credits include “Baywatch,” “Dope,” “The Royal,” “Transparent,” “The Expendables” and “Stuber.”

Dennis has starred in HBO’s “A Black Lady Sketch Show,” Apple TV+’s “The Big Door Prize,” Netflix’s “The Upshaws,” “Rosewood,” “The Bobby Brown Story” and “The Game.”

Perry rose to prominence for her recurring role as Tasha on “Insecure.” She can currently be seen in “Diarra From Detroit,” Kenya Barris’s first show for BET+. Her other credits include “Bust Down,” “Rap Sh!t,” “Snowfall” and “Get Hard.”

Stand-up comedian and actor Tony Baker (“Last Comic Standing,” “Whiplash”), Nefetari Spencer (“Reasonable Doubt,” “Young Rock”) and Rizi Timane (“Decker,” “New Amsterdam”) have also joined the cast.

The untitled comedy also stars Lil Rel Howery (“Get Out,” “Vacation Friends”), Janelle James (“Abbott Elementary”), Vanessa Bell Calloway (“This is Us,” “Coming to America”), Keyla Monterroso Mejia (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”), Maude Apatow (“Euphoria”), comedian Katt Williams, Joshua Neal (“A Black Lady Sketch Show”), Aziza Scott (“Insecure,” “Home Before Dark”) and Patrick Cage (“Rap Sh!t,” “Mayor of Kingstown”).

Producers include HOORAE’s Issa Rae and Sara Diya Rastogi, ColorCreative’s Deniese Davis and MACRO Film Studios’ Charles D. King, James Lopez and Poppy Hanks. Singleton is co-producing, while Big Boss’ Palmer and Sharon Palmer are executive producing. MACRO Film Studios is co-financing.

The project came together from the CoCre lab at Sony Pictures. The lab was a previous pact between ColorCreative and Sony Pictures to source and incubate emerging, diverse screenwriters to develop and write their first studio feature based on original ideas.
