Kelli Giddish to guest star on Season 26 of 'Law & Order: SVU'

Kelli Giddish will appear as a guest star on "Law & Order: SVU" again this season.

Giddish's character, Amanda Rollins, will show up to see her former NYPD pals in at least one episode of Season 26 of the crime drama, TODAY.com has confirmed.

Giddish, who last appeared on "SVU" in May, was spotted on the show's set this week while filming an episode that will air in the fall.

The actor has revived her Rollins character several times since officially departing "SVU" halfway through its 24th season after 11 seasons.

When Rollins last appeared as a series regular on the show, she and Assistant District Attorney Dominick “Sonny” Carisi (Peter Scanavino) tied the knot in a spontaneous courthouse wedding.

Rollins then left the NYPD to take a teaching job at Fordham University.

Giddish returned for the Season 24 finale during which Rollins revealed to her colleague and close friend Capt. Olivia Benson, played by Mariska Hargitay, that she and Carisi were expecting their first child.

During Giddish's guest appearance in May, viewers learned that Rollins left her college teaching position because, she told her husband, she was "bored being a professor."

Rollins ended up tagging along on the job with Benson, who interviewed an alleged rape victim. Bit by the detective bug again, Rollins ended up continuing to work on the case until it was solved.

“It’s like she never missed a beat,” Benson told Detective Odafin “Fin” Tutuola (Ice-T).

Carisi also noticed how engaged his wife had become.

“You’ve got this spark in your eye,” he told her. “I haven’t seen it since you left SVU.”

Hargitay, who's played Benson since "SVU" premiered in 1999, told Variety in May that she fought hard to keep Giddish on as a full-time "SVU" cast member but series creator Dick Wolf decided to write off Giddish's character.

“I don’t like not being listened to, especially when I’m right,” said Hargitay. “That relationship was one of the most powerful relationships in television because you saw these two badass women, so flawed and so there for each other.”

Hargitay also said Giddish is her “favorite actor to work with.”

“Kelli is my heart. It’s a sore subject. I have a lot of say on the show, but I didn’t have enough there,” she said.
