Kelly Clarkson Shares Bold Confession About Weight-Loss Drugs
Kelly Clarkson
Kelly Clarkson is reflecting on her incredible weight loss journey with new insight.
During Monday's (May 13) episode of her award-winning talk show, Clarkson was chatting with The View's Whoopi Goldberg when the two began discussing their weight loss and their opinions–as well as experiences–with medications that have been popularized for their ability to help people lose weight.
As Goldberg, who previously opened up about her own success using Mounjaro, sat down on the couch, the American Idol alum greeted her with a compliment.
"Every time I run into you, you look younger," the Grammy winner gushed. "I don't know what, you're like Benjamin Button," she said of the F. Scott Fitzgerald character known for aging "backward."
"First of all, it's all the weight I've lost," Goldberg explained. "Cause I've lost almost two people."
"I have lost a lot as well," Clarkson chimed in.
"I'm doing that wonderful shot," Goldberg added. "That works for folks who need some help and it's been really good for me."
"No, mine is a different one than people assume, but I ended up having to do that too," Clarkson added. "'Cause my bloodwork got so bad."
"Okay, I didn't plan on talking about this," Clarkson admitted before sharing that she "never saw" the weight gain. According to the "Stronger" songstress, it wasn't until she saw an image of herself "at her heaviest" that she became concerned.
"My doctor was chasing me around for like two years, and I was like, 'No, I'm afraid of it. I already have thyroid problems,'" Clarkson recalled thinking right before she began the unnamed medication.
"Everybody thinks it's Ozempic, it's not. It's something else," she clarified. "It's something that aids in helping break down the sugar, obviously my body doesn't do it right."
"But seeing yourself," she said of a special she recorded before starting her weight loss journey, "I didn't realize."
"I was watching the video, I was going to release it, and then I pause it," Clarkson told the audience. "I was like who the [bleep] is that?"
"It's a weird thing," she added, "Because I was never insecure about [the weight] and I was happy."
"It's shocking," Clarkson said before noting that at her "heaviest" she weighed around 203 pounds.
While the pop star didn't go into detail about the medication she's been prescribed, she did reveal to PEOPLE in January that even after sticking to lifestyle and diet changes, she had been diagnosed as pre-diabetic.
At the time, she said she was focusing on revamping her health by eating a protein-heavy diet, getting more exercise and keeping a healthier mindset.
Clarkson has been on a transformative journey since fall of last year, when she told Today's Jenna Bush Hager that she lost nearly 40 pounds, it's unclear when the singer began taking the medication that may have contributed to her weight loss. Though, given her timeline, it appears she did lose quite a bit of weight just through lifestyle changes alone.
