Kelly Osbourne Makes Bold Claim About Celeb Rehab Centers in Matthew Perry Documentary
Before he died in 2023, Matthew Perry went to rehab multiple times. But not everybody thinks that the type of rehab facilities frequented by celebrities like Perry are really helping addicts.
A new documentary, TMZ Investigates Matthew Perry and the Secret Celebrity Drug Ring, looks at how "a ring of doctors, enablers and rehab centers fuel the addiction of celebs, who pay them all a fortune for services that are the opposite of helpful," according to TMZ.
During her appearance in the doc, Kelly Osbourne opened up about how her own time in rehab was like "university on how to be a better drug addict." She also made a disturbing claim about "body brokers," people supposedly sent by rehabs to prey on recovering addicts.
"Body brokers...they sit outside of AA meetings, looking for weak and vulnerable people that they encourage to go and relapse, so they can then pick you up again," Osbourne said.
"I swear on everything that it's true, and it's heartbreaking," she added.
In August, the U.S. Attorney's Office, Central District of California revealed that five people were charged in connection with Perry's October 2023 death, including two doctors and his assistant.
Dr. Salvador Plasencia and a dealer, Jasveen Sangha, 41 (known as the "Ketamine Queen") were arrested on Aug. 15. Each was charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine "in an 18-count superseding indictment returned on Wednesday with distributing ketamine to Perry during the final weeks of the actor’s life."
Sangha was also charged with "one count of maintaining a drug-involved premises, one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, one count of possession with intent to distribute ketamine, and five counts of distribution of ketamine."
TMZ Investigates Matthew Perry and the Secret Celebrity Drug Ring premieres on Monday, Sept. 16, on FOX at 9 p.m. ET and streams next-day on Hulu.
