Kelly Price Says She’s Not “A Diddy Cheerleader” After Facing Backlash For Her Now-Deleted “Prayer”
Kelly Price is urging Diddy to check himself after a video of him abusing Cassie from 2016 surfaced.
After the Bad Boy Records founder considered his actions in the video to be “inexcusable,” he claimed he asked God for “grace and mercy.” Price then took it upon herself to “pray” for him.
“It is my sincere prayer that the power of the Holy Ghost overtake you so that you not not only have a change of heart but a change of mind and a change of direction. I have seen you at your best and at your worst,” the “Friend Of Mine” singer wrote in a since-deleted comment.
Price continued, “I know what you are capable of being when you were at your best despite the seductions of this industry. I want to see you and I want to see you soon too kreate8 this in this business but I need you to pray and I need you to receive from the most high. I need for those prayers to take place sincerely. You are a unique talent, and both sides that represent light and darkness receive you anxiously. Do you know who God is! Lean not unto your own understanding but all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your path. [red heart emoji] KP.”
It didn’t take long for fans to slam the singer’s sentiment.
One tweeted, “Black women from Gen X keep embarrassing themselves by defending the absolute worst abusers.” Writer/producer Kirk A. Moore wrote, “If you’ve read the actual lawsuit, you’d know this is truly unhinged.” Another person chimed in, writing, “Kelly is desperate for a comeback. She wants to “Create8” something w/him and weaponizing his faith to get close. Read the room.”
Price took to Instagram Live to clarify her stance, noting that she’s not “a Diddy cheerleader.”

“I’m not gonna argue with trolls […] I have not spoken about any of this stuff since it’s come out. I don’t stand with anything that is criminal. None of us can unsee what we saw,” the 51-year-old explained. “[The ‘prayer’] was really more of a warning. I simply told him because I believed that he would hear it. I was pretty much telling him, do the soul work.”
She added, “I was basically telling him you gotta change your heart, you gotta change your mind, you gotta change your direction. […] I told him, do what you need to do to get your soul right, brother. It’s up to the courts to decide what they do with him legally. I have nothing to do with that.”
In regards to the video of Diddy assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Price expressed that nothing would allow her to “be okay with someone else doing something so horrific.” She captioned her response by saying, “For those who misconstrued, misinterpreted or just chose to put words in my mouth, this is for clarity. If you choose to believe otherwise that’s your choice but I won’t let anyone call me out for something I didn’t do. I can’t offer redemption, forgiveness or Grace because my name is Kelly, not Jesus. Therapy+Jesus that’s doing the Soul work. What happens legally is up to the people who have that authority.”
