Kelly Rowland, Nicole Scherzinger, Liam Payne, and AJ McLean to Find the Next Great Group on ‘Building the Band’
Love Is Blind but for finding your bandmates, and with some of the greatest group members as judges?! On Friday, Netflix announced that Kelly Rowland, Nicole Scherzinger, Liam Payne, and AJ McLean will help find music’s next great group on Building the Band.
The new series will feature individual singers as they form their own bands with other contestants — though during that process, they’ll be isolated in individual booths (à la Love Is Blind). The singers will have to select who to form a band with based on their chemistry, musical compatibility, and connection.

The Pussycat Dolls’ Scherzinger, One Direction’s Payne, and Destiny’s Child’s Rowland will serve as judges and mentors. Meanwhile, Backstreet Boys’ McLean will participate as the series’ host.
Scherzinger has some music competition show judging experience under her belt after judging The X Factor, Masked Singer and The Sing-Off. Meanwhile, Payne was placed in One Direction while competing on X Factor.
“Building the Band is a brave and bold undertaking for all involved as we hand over power to the singers themselves to form their own band based on chemistry first,” executive producer Cat Lawson told Netflix’s Tudum. “With looks out of the equation, can they create a deeper connection with their bandmates?”
“With limited bands, there are difficult decisions and heart-stopping moments along the way, but ultimately the outcome is truly amazing, with bands forming who in my opinion are worthy of the very biggest stage!” Lawson added.
The series is set to feature guest judges along the way, and will begin filming before the end of summer.
