Kenan Thompson Embodies Keith Lee In ‘SNL’ TikTok Parody
Saturday Night Live parodied some of the internet’s most viral figures in a recent sketch, and none of the top digital creators were safe. In the comedic clip taking jabs at TikTok, SNL delivers satirical impersonations of Keith Lee, Nara Smith, Dr. Umar Johnson, Nick Kosir, and Harry Daniels, and more. The sketch even jokes at Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign’s text message inquiries and the TikTok shop taking over the platform’s algorithm.
SNL veteran Kenan Thompson takes on the role of an influencer modeled after Keith Lee. Sitting in a car, as Lee does in most of his TikToks, Thompson reviews a “Hennessy, habanero, fruity pebble chicken sandwich, from the fictitious “Lisa’s Soul Food in Atlanta.”
“I’m not gon’ lie y’all. That’s nasty,” he shares after one bite with Lee’s signature zoom-in.
As the scroll continues, Heidi Gardner spoofs the “trad wife” trend as Greta Meadows, Nara Smith style.
“Today my husband asked for beef tacos and I didn’t want to let him down, so I slaughtered our cow and picked the corn myself,” she jokes in Smith’s tone and cadence. Later in the clip, she destroys her law degree to make paper from scratch because her children wanted to color.
Devon Walker takes Dr. Umar Johnson’s stance in presenting “the trap of white women,” and resisting “the temptation of the snow bunny.” The character is later exposed as being in a relationship with the fitness influencer played by Ashley Padilla (a white woman).
Additionally, Maya Rudolph brings her Kamala Harris impersonation to life, Chloe Fineman channels Alex Cooper and the Call Her Daddy podcast, Bowen Yang plays influencer Harry Daniels, James Austin Johnson brings Donald Trump to the routine, and Ego Nwodim gets in her Reesa Teesa bag with a multipart series explaining her “beef” with Chilli’s.
The sketch also stands as an allegory for missing out on life’s moments while endlessly scrolling on social media, as the phone user is revealed to be the husband of the trad wife from TikTok. During his time on the app, he misses the birth of their 11th child.
