Kendrick Lamar Brings Black Air Force One Energy On Combative New Drop
Kendrick Lamar dropped a surprise new release last night (Sept. 11) on Instagram, immediately taking over our timelines. The song comes days after the announcement of Lamar headlining the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show stirring controversy within the culture.
The track was shared by the Compton wordsmith without a caption or title, accompanied only by a picture of a well-worn pair of black Air Force One sneakers, signaling the type of time he’s on these days.
While the song is not an overt diss record, Lamar does seem to take aim at industry players he deems questionable. A few lines did seemingly refer to Drake, however, including one about “walking down” a recent opponent. “Just walked that man down, that’ll do everyone a solid / It’s love but tough love, sometimes you gotta result in violence.” Listen to the track below.
The untitled song is his first full release since smash hit “Not Like Us” debuted in March of this year, essentially concluding the back-and-forth with Drake that stretched out to nine songs between them. Lamar teased another release within the easter egg-filled music video for the aforementioned chart-topper, but has yet to drop the complete version.
The song follows Kendrick being announced as the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show headliner, with the rapper saying in a statement, “What the deal, everybody? My name’s Kendrick Lamar and I’ll be performing at Super Bowl LIX. Will you be pulling up? I hope so. You know it’s only one opportunity to win a championship. No round twos […] I wouldn’t want you to miss it. Meet me in New Orleans. February 9th, 2025. Bring your best dress too, even if you’re watching from home.”
