Kendrick Lamar Goes Back To Back: Drops 2nd Drake Diss Track “6:16 In LA”
Kendrick Lamar is determined to not lose his current momentum in his ongoing feud with Drake. This morning (May 3), the Compton rapper released “6:16 In LA,” his second diss track aimed at the Toronto star in less than a three-day span. K. Dot unleashed “euphoria” on Tuesday (April 30).
The immediate detail that fans gravitated towards is that the new track’s title is a reference to Drizzy’s famous “timestamp records,” which are fan-favorite songs that are named after a specific time and location. It’s also worth nothing that “616” seemingly represents June 16, which is Father’s Day, and Kendrick’s last diss included bars aimed at Drake’s alleged inability to be a present dad. June 16 is also Tupac’s birthday.
“Who could reach this? Only God could teleport this type of freedom/ My God, my confession is yours, but/ Who am I if I don’t go to war?/ There’s opportunity when livin’ with laws/ I discover myself when I fall short/ Raise my hands to a fallen sky, I fantasize/ Me jumpin’ planets and mortal lies, I correspond,” Kendrick begins to rap over a soulful sample.
The shots then get a lot more direct, and the “LOYALTY” artist name-drops Drake’s OVO camp, makes fun of his “Toosie Slide” song, and more. “Have you ever thought that OVO was workin’ for me?/ Fake bully, I hate bullies, you must be a terrible person/ Everyone in your team is whispering that you deserve it/ Can’t ‘Toosie Slide’ out of this one, it’s just gon’ resurface/ Every dog gotta have his day, now live in your purpose,” he continues.
In the loaded aforementioned “euphoria” release, Kendrick mentioned how much he “hates” Drake, his “fake abs,” and J. Cole’s involvement in the beef. He also takes shots at Drake’s use of A.I.-generated 2Pac and Snoop Dogg voices in “Taylor Made Freestyle,” saying he made Pac “turn over in his grave.”
The entire back-and-forth was sparked by “Like That,” a diss track housed on Future and Metro Boomin’s collaboration album that saw Kendrick officially removing himself from the aforementioned “Big 3.” J. Cole fired back with “7 Minute Drill” a week later, and has since apologized and removed the song from all platforms. Drake threw his hat into the ring with “Push Ups,” where he spoke on K. Dot’s label situation and more.
