It looks like Kesha is officially getting rid of the infamous “Wake up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy” line from her 2009 hit track “TiK ToK,” which was co-written and produced by Benny Blanco. And she’s teasing the new revised version of the song on her social media.
Kesha, who had previously adapted the lyrics while joining Reneé Rapp on stage at Coachella earlier this year, singing “F*ck P. Diddy” instead of the original line, vowed to make the change permanently in August.
Celebrating the song’s 15th anniversary on her Instagram account, Kesha wrote: “This song eternalizes a side of myself that I love very much, and now see I have to protect fiercely. The world has changed so much and so have I.?”
Shen then shouted out Rapp for the lyric change, saying she “absolutely loved” it and confirming that it would be permanent. ?She added: “I will re-record it when I have legal rights to! Now, my first baby stands for so much. It stands for fiercely protecting fun and unadulterated joy, in myself and in others.”
Kesha teased the permanent change in a new video posted to TikTok. While we had previously only heard the revised version of the song live, the new video featured a professionally recorded version of the line. You can hear it below:
The permanent lyric change on “TiK ToK” arrives as new allegations of physical violence and sexual abuse against Sean “Diddy” Combs come to light. You can see a complete timeline of those here.
