Kevin Bacon hopes Delaware fans won't ghost him
If you spot someone at a Delaware Wawa this summer who resembles Hollywood actor Kevin Bacon, it may not be smart to ignore them.
The singer and movie star will perform with his older brother Michael as part of The Bacon Brothers duo at the Freeman Arts Pavilion near Selbyville on Sunday, July 21.
The younger and more famous of The Bacon Brothers told Vanity Fair, in a story published Wednesday, July 3, that he did a social experiment in Los Angeles where he hid his identity by wearing an elaborate disguise.
But the A-list actor would soon discover that going unnoticed hurt his feelings.
"People were kind of pushing past me, not being nice. Nobody said, ‘I love you.’ I had to wait in line to, I don’t know, buy a (*&^%) coffee or whatever. I was like, 'This sucks. I want to go back to being famous,' ” he explained.
The "Footloose" star considered living like a normal person without attracting much attention, but he found that difficult to achieve through just wearing sunglasses and a baseball cap, saying, “I have a face that’s pretty recognizable.”
To fix that, Bacon went all out to hide his identity for the experiment. Vanity Fair reported he wore a prosthetic disguise with fake teeth, a different nose, and glasses.
The Philly native tested out the experiment at The Grove, a shopping mall in one of the most densely populated places in Los Angeles, and known for attracting tourists.
Vanity Fair reported that Bacon's disguise made him look like his character in the new Ti West horror film "MaXXXine," where he plays a sleazy private detective hired to track down the title character (Mia Goth).
The irony of this situation might resonate with some Bacon fans, as the actor played an egotistical scientist who learned how to become invisible in the 2000 sci-fi film "Hollow Man."
However, the difference is that in "Hollow Man," Bacon was only pretending to be invisible while earning a Hollywood paycheck and having fans flock to theaters to see him. In other words, he got to have his cake and eat it too.
Kevin Bacon in 'Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F' & 'MaXXXine'
Bacon is cooking this summer in the slasher film "MaXXXine" (directed by Wilmington's own Ti West), now in theaters, and "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F," which is streaming on Netflix.
In the latest installment of "Beverly Hills Cop," Bacon plays the villainous Captain Cade Grant.

The film follows Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) who returns to Beverly Hills after his daughter's life is threatened. It includes Foley's old friends John Taggart (John Ashton) and Billy Rosewood (Wilmington's Judge Reinhold) working to uncover a conspiracy, per IMDB.
“I honestly feel very grateful for where I happen to be,” Bacon told Variety.
“That I can have two totally different movies coming out within a couple of days of each other, and completely different roles. The fact they would both come my way is the thing that I feel the most gratitude for. I’ve fought really long and hard for it.”
The Bacon Brothers coming back to Delaware
The Bacon Brothers have gigged in Delaware several times. Their latest was last summer when they headlined the popular Bottle & Cork in Dewey Beach.
This time the siblings from Philly are playing at the larger outdoor Freeman Arts Pavilion, which accommodates 4,000 patrons.
The band describes their sound as "Forosoco," a mix of the words "folk, rock, soul, country." The Bacon Brothers have dropped several albums, including their new release, "Ballad of The Brothers."
While some fans get scared to approach celebrities when they see them in the wild, it might be a good idea to say hello to Bacon if you think you see him out and about in Delaware before his show.
