Kevin Costner Reportedly Has a Dating Rule That Is Directly Tied to Ex Christine Baumgartner
Kevin Costner is one of Hollywood’s most eligible bachelors right now, but he’s reportedly setting a few dating rules in place before he gets into a serious relationship. All of the boundaries he is putting in place for himself seem reasonable, but there is one non-negotiable item that is directly linked to his divorce from Christine Baumgartner.
Most of the 69-year-old actor’s dating requirements appear pretty flexible, according to a Life & Style source. “Kevin’s not opposed to dating an actress, but he wants a woman who wants to be loved — not one who’s on the fence about having a real relationship,” they claimed. That seems to be a good marker for a healthy romance, and he wants a partner who “loves kids” and has a “career of some kind.” It’s the final rule that makes sense for the A-list actor, but it does feel like a bit of a dig at his ex-wife. The source added, “She must be open to signing a prenup.”

Baumgartner signed a prenuptial agreement ahead of her 2004 wedding to Costner, but she challenged it in court — and didn’t wind up with everything she wanted. She requested “$248,000 total for all three children,” according to court documents obtained by People. She wrote in the filing that the sum was “less than the amount needed to maintain the children in their accustomed lifestyle,” so she also asked Costner to pick up the tab for their kids’ activities, healthcare, and private school tuition. The former couple share sons Cayden, 17, and Hayes, 15, and daughter Grace, 14.
In the end, Baumgartner settled for $63,209 per month in child support and more than the $1.5 million in alimony as stated in their original prenuptial agreement. It’s a situation Costner would rather avoid if he decided to get married again. That’s why the Life & Style insider claimed that “there’s no wiggle room” when it comes to his finances. The Horizon: An American Saga star is taking a casual approach to his dating life, but he’s been linked to Jewel and Reese Witherspoon in his single days — even though neither relationship appears to be true.
Perhaps Costner always wants to enjoy some time alone because his first marriage to Cindy Silva ended in 1994 with an $80 million payout and no prenup in place. In comparison, his second split with Baumgartner seems much easier until you start adding in those legal fees. It’s something Costner wants to avoid the next time around. It’s no wonder he has his dating rules firmly in place.
