Kevin James and Leah Remini Thank Fans After ‘Kevin Can Wait’ Is Canceled

The show was canceled by CBS after two seasons, ET can confirm.

Kevin James and Leah Remini thanked fans, cast and crew of Kevin Can Wait on Sunday after the series was canceled.

The CBS comedy got the ax after two seasons, ET can confirm. The sitcom starred James as a police officer who retires to relax and spend more time with his family -- only to find a life with a lot of family complications. Remini played a supporting role in season 1 and then co-starred in season 2.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, James thanked everyone involved with the series.

"I want to say thank you to all the fans for the love and support. I was so blessed to be able to work every day with the most amazing cast, crew, writers and support team!" he wrote on Instagram. "Thank you all! Thank you @cbstvstudios and thank you @sony for your constant dedication to the show. I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything in the world… Okay, maybe a season 3. Love to all."

Remini wrote a similar message on her Instagram account.

"I want to say thank you to the amazing cast, crew, producers, and the writers of @kevincanwaitcbs. You accepted me with open arms. For me to get to work with @officialkevinjames again day in and day out was a Godsend," she wrote. "I laughed everyday, and I will miss that the most. You don’t always get a second chance at something that meant so much to you and I did, and I am so grateful for it. It came at a time when I needed to laugh. So thank you all. I am so happy that it happened and I will miss seeing all of you. Thank you to @cbstv and @sony for a great time. #kevincanwait."

Remini's role in season 2 was controversial. In season 1, she played a supporting role as a former police department rival turned business partner at a private security firm they formed. But after season 1, James' on-screen wife, played by Erin Hayes, was killed off-screen. Remini's role increased to full-on co-star, as the series focused more on their relationship as partners.

James and the show's writers defended the decision to kill off his on-screen wife and increase Remini's role as a way to up the drama and stake on the show. Ironically, James suggested in October that the series wouldn't have seen a third season if they kept Hayes' character on the show.

"If we got through a second season, I wouldn't see us getting through a third one," he said at the time. "We were literally just running out of ideas."
