The Trailer for Key & Peele's 'Keanu' Makes us Miss Them Even More

Ethan AlterSenior Writer, Yahoo Entertainment

When Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele unexpectedly announced that they’d be ending their beloved Comedy Central series last fall, comedy fans everywhere fall into a deep mourning. But the duo raised our spirits by promising that their next project, a feature film entitled Keanu, would fill the void left by Key & Peele. Based on this just-released (and very not safe for work) trailer, they’ve kept their word. In the wake of a devastating break-up, Peele adopts a stray kitten that he names Keanu, to the delight of his pal Key. But when Keanu is apparently cat-napped, the two hit the streets to track the little guy down, eventually going up against the 17th Street Blips — a gang that, conveniently enough, resides on 17th Street.

It’s a simple story, but fans of Key & Peele will immediately recognize the comedians’ familiar handprints. For example, they’ve based entire skits around cute pets before:

And when Key tells the Blips that they’re in the market for a “gangster pet,” maybe he had this kind in mind:

Speaking of gangsters, the duo have frequently pretended to be badder than they actually are:

Meanwhile, Key telling Peele that he “sounds like John Ritter all the time” echoes their admission that they come across as white-sounding black guys:

Basically, Keanu looks like the big-screen version of Key & Peele we didn’t know we wanted until now. And it may be the last time we see the two of them together for awhile: they’ve said in interviews that they’ll be going their separate ways for awhile in the wake of the movie’s release. Heck of a series finale, huh?

All five seasons of Key & Peele can be streamed on Hulu. Keanu opens in theaters on Apr. 29.
