Khloé Kardashian Opens Up About Breaking Up in the Public Eye: ‘It’s Humiliating’

There was once a time when Americans had never heard the Kardashian name. When the sisters Kardashian were free to love and date and breakup with relative ease. Then they traded all that for fame and fortune and probably, if they could go back, they’d do it all the same. That does not, however, mean that a breakup in the public eye is easy to do, as Khloé Kardashian knows all too well.
On her app, Khloé opens up about going through a breakup as a public figure. It’s behind a paywall, but, hey that’s what aggregation is for, no?
“When you break up in the public eye, it’s almost like you have to go through it twice: privately and publicly,” Khloé writes. “I’ve been there, for sure, and it’s hard.”
Khloé has had her fair share of personal dramas splashed across tabloid headlines. First there was her split from husband Lamar Odom, then an on-again, off-again relationship with French Montana, and then another new relationship, this one with James Harden. That, of course, all pales in comparison to Odom’s overdose, which saw Kardashian and Odom reuniting as he healed and, by many accounts, was eventually the reason why her relationship with Harden came to an end.
“There’s so much that you want to keep private, just for the sake of your own pride, and when details get out to the tabloids or whatever, it’s like pouring salt into an open wound,” Khloé writes. “It definitely makes it hard to close that chapter of your life.”
She doesn’t state specifically which relationship she’s referring to here, though she hints that it’s one where no one did anything wrong, and the relationship simply ran its course.
“You don’t need a huge scandal for things not to work, either,” Khloé says. “I actually think it takes more courage to move on if there’s not a concrete reason you broke up. I wish people would realize that a breakup doesn’t always mean cheating or abuse — sometimes you just know things aren’t working, and you have to remove yourself from the situation.”
