'The kid is mine': Drake confirms love child on new album, 'Scorpion'

Drake‘s new double album, Scorpion, was highly anticipated for many reasons, but perhaps the biggest was to see if he would respond to Pusha T’s diss track claiming that Drake has a secret love child, allegedly named Adonis. Well, Drake has responded — and, yes, he’s a dad.

Scorpion dropped just before midnight Friday and one of the buzziest songs is “Emotionless,” featuring a sample from Mariah Carey, in which he sings, “I wasn’t hiding my kid from the world/I was hiding the world from my kid.” That confirms the rumor, shared by Pusha T, that the Canadian rapper, 31, fathered a child, reportedly with Sophie Brussaux, a former French adult film star. (Brussaux isn’t named on the album; Drake doesn’t say “Adonis” either.)

Drake also explains why he decided not to announce his new addition, saying, “Breakin’ news in my life, I don’t run to the blogs/ The only ones I wanna tell are the ones I can call. They always ask, ‘Why let the story run if it’s false?’ / You know a wise man once said nothin’ at all / I’m exhausted and drained I can’t even pretend.”

The song “March 14” has more information about Drake’s fatherhood. He raps about meeting the mother of his son only twice and that he’s seen the baby, born Oct. 11, only once. He sings: “Yesterday morning was crazy / I had to come to terms with the fact that it’s not a maybe / That s*** is in stone, sealed and signed / She not my lover like Billie Jean but the kid is mine / [His mother] Sandi used to tell me all it takes is one time, and all it took was one time/ S***, we only met two times, two times / And both times were nothing like the new times / Now it’s rough times / I’m out here on front lines just trying to make sure that I see him sometimes / It’s breaking my spirit.”

Drake’s own parents split, so he admits being disappointed that his child will grow up the same way: “Single father, I hate when I hear it / I used to challenge my parents on every album / Now I’m embarrassed to tell them I ended up as a co-parent / Always promised the family unit / I wanted it to be different because I’ve been through it / But this is the harsh truth now.”

He also talks about taking a DNA test and his one meeting with the infant, at Christmastime, singing, “This the first positive DNA we ever celebrated / I can’t forget the looks on they faces / Got the news in Miami that we all now got ones that we raisin’ / Tell Jello bring some, uh, Rosé and Baccarat out for our cheers to the next generation / But this champagne toast is short-lived / I got an empty crib in my empty crib / I only met you one time, introduced you to Saint Nick / I think he must’ve brought you like 20 gifts.”

Drake also makes it clear that things between him and the mother aren’t great, saying, “Hopefully by the time you hear this me and your mother will have come around instead of always cutting each other down.”

Needless to say, Drake fans are freaking out about him confirming the news — though it wasn’t entirely unexpected.

There is a little jealousy.

Though many more people are, like, “You met your baby once? Fix that, stat.”

That’s a lot to process right there and that’s just a fraction of the album, which also features Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, Ty Dolla $ign, Future, PartyNextDoor, and unreleased music from the late Michael Jackson.
