Who is the Killer on 'Only Murders in the Building' Season 4?

Another season, another murder to solve! Only Murders in the Building is back with a new mystery to crack: who killed Charles Brazzos' stunt double, Sazz Pataki.

As fans saw in the Season 3 finale, Jane Lynch's character Sazz was shot through a window in Charles' dark apartment at the Arconia. However, when Charles (Steve Martin), Mabel (Selena Gomez) and Oliver (Martin Short) returned to the apartment that same night in the Season 4 opener, Sazz was not there.

With the exception of some spots of blood and a hole in the kitchen window (that went unnoticed in the beginning), the crime scene had been cleaned up. Although, Howard Morris' cadaver dog, Gravey, seemed to know that a body had been there and later led the amateur sleuths to the out-of-order incinerator at the Arconia. Inside the incinerator, the trio made the gruesome discovery of Sazz’s metal joints from Bulgaria.

Since last season, we've been left wondering if the shooter meant to kill Charles or Sazz. OMITB viewers might recall that before Sazz was shot, she told Charles that she had something she needed to talk to him about that was "a little sensitive." While in Los Angeles for a meeting with a Hollywood studio about turning their podcast into a film in the Season 4 premiere, Charles, Mabel and Oliver found suspicious papers at Sazz's apartment, some of which read: "Long Game," "West Tower Arconia," "Looking at Charles," and "Dudenoff."

So, who was Sazz the intended victim, or was it Charles? And who would want to kill either of them? After Episode 1, we still have no idea, but the Season 4 premiere introduced some new faces who could possibly be suspects.

Bev Melon

The "persistent emailing maven," played by Molly Shannon, is determined to make a movie about Charles, Mabel, and Oliver's podcast. The trio met Bev out in California in the first episode. During the meeting, Bev told the podcasters that their "life rights" were the last thing they needed before shooting the film. "Guys, whatever the number, we're gonna make it work," she told them. But could eliminating them also make it easier? Only time will tell.

Marshall P. Pope

Marshall P. Pope, played by Jin Ha, wrote the script for the Only Murders in the Building movie. Is it possible that he wanted a big plot twist or to write a new story? In his first meeting with Charles, Mabel, and Oliver, Marshall said he was "just trying to get you all down in the right way, you know, at least how I pictured you." Perhaps he pictured a fresh storyline...and a new murder.

Loretta Durkin

It's a long shot, but could Loretta, played by Meryl Streep, have tried to kill Charles? After all, Charles was one of the stars of Oliver's musical, and Loretta was going to have to wait to accept other jobs that were coming her way in the Season 3 finale. Speaking to Oliver and Mabel in the Season 4 premiere, she said, "Who could have imagined a week ago we would all be Hollywood-bound?" Loretta also asked Oliver if he would consider joining her in Hollywood since the podcast (at the time) was on hiatus and the musical was dead.

Joy

How about Charles' ex-fiancée Joy, played by Andrea Martin? Before Charles intended to get a bottle of wine from his apartment in the Season 3 finale, he received what he described as a "romantic feeler text" from his former love interest that read: "Scott Bakula says hi." A reminder that Sazz mentioned in Season 3, Episode 5 that she was going to be doing stunts for Bakula in L.A. Martin's character wouldn't be the first killer that Charles has dated--ahem, Jan. While Joy did not appear in the Season 4 premiere, she was mentioned by Bakula, so we're not ruling her out just yet!
