Kim Kardashian mom-shamed over photo of North staring at a phone: 'Give her a book'
Just last week Pink announced that she’s no longer posting about her kids on social media because she’s tired of being mom-shamed. And given the negative comments her latest photo of 5-year-old daughter North West has received, Kim Kardashian may be right behind her.
On Saturday the reality star shared a photo of her oldest child, who is pictured sporting straightened pigtails and a flick of bright pink eye shadow as she looks at a phone. Tucked between her legs is a bag of Goldfish crackers, a snack not even the most glammed-out kiddo can resist.
But the parenting police have swooped into the comments, chiding Kardashian for letting her daughter wear makeup and straightening her natural curls. Some also complained that the girl is dressed inappropriately.
While Kardashian has fielded mom-shaming remarks about her daughter’s appearance before — most recently after the 5-year-old wore black lipstick to one of dad Kanye West’s Sunday Service shows — but getting slammed for her daughter’s phone use may be a first. It seems that some commenters disapproved of North getting some screen time instead of brushing up on Dr. Seuss or Beatrix Potter.
“Give her a book,” read one comment.
“Makeup and phones at a young age is such a noooo no,” another commenter wrote.
“Her holding a book would be nice too,” added another follower.
The backlash from Kardashian’s fans was swift, with many defending the phone pic.
“You minding your own business would also be nice,” shot back a supporter.
“North is in school,” a fan added. “Who wants to go to school all day, then come home and read a book? Especially when her and Kim are at a shoot.”
“Did books make Kylie a billionaire?” pointed out another Kardashian fan.
The criticism comes on the heels of the World Health Organization’s new guidelines stating that children under the age of 5 should have no or limited screen time.
