Kim Kardashian reveals wild Vegas night while honoring hairstylist Chris Appleton with North
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — At Hollywood award shows, stars usually claim the spotlight. But at Sunday night's Fashion Los Angeles Awards, their stylists got their due.
Kim Kardashian, Keanu Reaves, Miley Cyrus and more celebrities gathered at the event, hosted by Daily Front Row Magazine at the Beverly Hills Hotel, to present their respective stylists with awards and share memories of working with them over the years.
Kardashian brought along North West – her 9-year-old daughter with ex-husband Ye, formerly known as Kanye West – to pay tribute to her longtime hairstylist Chris Appleton, who was honored with hair artist of the year.
"Chris Appleton's the best," West said into the mic, before stepping aside for her mom's comments.
Kardashian said Appleton has been more than a stylist to her: He's been a confidante.
"I can tell him all of my personal business, and it will never get out," she said. "We can party in Vegas all night long until three in the morning and get tattoos – (but) not me – like we did last night. That's why we're a little tired."
Kardashian didn't seem to be lying about the tiredness, at one point appearing to struggle to recall which award she was presenting to Appleton. The night before, Kardashian shared video on Instagram of herself at an Usher concert in Vegas with Appleton and his fiancé, actor Lukas Gage.
"I am so honored to be here to present Chris Appleton with the best stylist, I think, of the year, award? Of the universe? Hair stylist of the year, Chris Appleton," she said.
Kardashian also briefly interrupted Appleton's speech to congratulate him on his engagement to Gage, who also attended the ceremony.
"I am so happy he's in a relationship right now, and that it's, like, out there," she said. "I'm so tired of all my girlfriends and guy friends asking me if you're available."
Law Roach jokes about sudden retirement, Gwyneth Paltrow ski trial
Law Roach may have announced his retirement from celebrity styling, but he sure is keeping busy. The famed stylist to Zendaya and more stars hosted the award show, where he cracked several jokes about his sudden retirement announcement last month.
"If you look under your seats, you can find my Cash App, OnlyFans and GoFundMe, because (I) didn't make a real good decision," Roach joked at the start of the show.

Reading off a teleprompter, Roach described Gwyneth Paltrow, who accepted the powerhouse brand of the year award on behalf of her wellness company Goop, by noting, among other things, that she "lost half a day of skiing," a reference to something Paltrow said on the stand during her highly publicized Utah ski trial last month.
"I did not write that," Roach insisted after the quip.
Paltrow seemed to take the joke in stride, sharing a laugh with Roach on the side of the stage after her speech.

Keanu Reeves recovers after teleprompter fails him
After starring in several action films, Keanu Reeves seems to have learned a thing or two about keeping calm in moments of crisis.
The "John Wick" actor was in the middle of introducing his stylist Jeanne Yang, who was honored with the fashion visionary award, when the teleprompter froze. Luckily, Reeves came prepared and pulled out a sheet of paper with his speech printed.
During her acceptance speech, Yang encouraged stylists to do small favors for up-and-comers in the industry. On the red carpet before the event, she expressed her excitement to USA TODAY about the state of men's fashion and "the democratization of men having the opportunity to wear sequins and wear fun colors."
"I'm appreciating that people are peacocking and really having a good time," she said. "For so many years, men's fashion has been underappreciated … Just seeing people have fun with fashion has been really great."
Elle Fanning teases 'dramatic' Met Gala look
It's a big week for fashion, with this year's Met Gala, aimed to honor late Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld, set for May 1.
Elle Fanning teased her Met Gala look to USA TODAY on the red carpet for the Fashion Los Angeles Awards.
"I'm excited," she said. "This year, I'm definitely going on theme. I have a story behind my look. I'm very excited about it, and it's always such a huge event, and so many people are there. You do get nervous, but I love dressing up, and that's the place that you can go all out."
When asked what fans can expect from the look, Fanning seemed to pick her words carefully.
"It's dramatic," she said, after a pause. "It's thoughtful."
