Kim Kardashian Walks on Air in Clear Mules at the Fourth Annual Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles
More from Footwear News
Kim Kardashian gave old Hollywood glamour at the fourth annual Academy Museum Gala held at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures tonight in Los Angeles.
The reality star took an unexpected route for her red carpet moment, donning a pair of clear mules. The footwear pick featured clear PVC uppers accompanied by almond-shaped toes and stiletto heels. Although the shoe choice is a polarizing one, clear heels are often utilized to create the illusion of length and height. Kardashian also wore a bejeweled anklet, creating an asymmetrical look.
Love them or hate them, the clear heel was first popularized among club kids and pole dancers back in the 90s and early 2000s. Fast forward to 2016, Kardashian was credited with reinvigorating the trend, sporting a pair of clear PVC Yeezy booties similar in composition to those she wore on the carpet tonight.
Channeling the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Kardashian was also styled in a striking white corsetted look hailing from Mugler. The spring 1998 couture ensemble featured a corsetted bustier and micro shorts accompanied by a floor-sweeping jacket. Additionally, the star wore Tiffany & Co. jewelry.
Kardashian is known for wearing bold outfits from a wide array of top brands, including Balmain, Balenciaga, Maison Margiela and Mugler. The former “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star’s shoes are equally daring and trendy, ranging from towering Rick Owens platform boots to Yeezy sneakers. For more formal occasions, Kardashian also slips on new and vintage heels from labels including Prada, Manolo Blahnik and Merah Vodianova.
The Academy Museum Gala is a star-studded event held annually to help raise funds to support museum exhibitions, education initiatives and public programming. These public programming fixtures include screenings, K–12 programs and access initiatives in service of the public and the local community of Los Angeles. This year’s honorees include Paul Mescal, Rita Moreno and Quentin Tarantino. The event is sponsored by Rolex.
