Colin Jost hosting Pop Culture Jeopardy!
On Wednesday, July 31 2024 Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Prime Video released a joint press statement confirming Jost as the host of the tournament, instead of the show's regular host Ken Jennings.
Says Suzanne Prete, president of game shows, Sony Pictures Television in the press release “Colin’s sharp wit and intelligence epitomize Pop Culture Jeopardy!. He’s smart and quick, like our contestants, and we know he’ll be able to keep up with them while making this new series his own. We could not be happier that he is joining us for this new journey.”
Also noted in the press release was the head of brand and content innovation, Amazon MGM Studios Lauren Anderson’s thoughts, saying “ [Jost’s] wry affability and pop culture fluency make him uniquely qualified as the perfect host for this new iteration.”
No one is more ready than Jost though, with the Saturday Night Live star saying “What is: I’m excited.”
What is Pop Culture Jeopardy!?
Pop Culture Jeopardy! is a brand new tournament style event in the Jeopardy! universe. It will be set up in the same way as a regular game of Jeopardy!—with the answer and question format—however the competitors will be playing in teams of three.
The teams are pre decided, as they are based on who the competitors applied with.
According to the Jeopardy! website, categories in the guessing game will range from “Alternative Rock to The Avengers; Broadway to MMA; Gen Z to Zendaya.”
It is unclear how much money the winners will get, but the Jeopardy! confirms that the competitors will get a “grand prize and ultimate bragging rights.”
All about Colin Jost
Colin Jost is best known for his work as a host on the hit Saturday Night Live skit Weekend Update. He has been on the show since 2005 and has appeared in over 360 total episodes.
His other acting credits include How to Be Single (2016), Tom & Jerry (2021), Coming 2 America (2021) and Fly Me to the Moon (2024). Jost has been nominated for 15 Primetime Emmys and even hosted the award show in 2018 alongside his Weekend Update co-host, Michael Che.
When he’s not acting, Jost can be found writing! In 2020, he released a memoir entitled A Very Punchable Face, which was an instant New York Times best-seller and named one of the best books of the year by Cosmopolitan, Vulture and Parade.
Jost has been married to the Marvel Universe superstar Scarlett Johansson since 2020. The pair has one child together and are often seen flaunting their love for one another on the red carpet.
