The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story has brought the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson back into the spotlight. Kris Jenner appeared on Ellen Tuesday and discussed her involvement with the case, including her friendship with Nicole. “Me and some of her other close friends all were really surprised and shocked by [what happened] because we felt like we really failed her as a friend,” Jenner told Ellen DeGeneres. “You know, you go through this and you discover things about somebody, and it was horrible.”

The two were supposed to get lunch the day after Brown Simpson’s murder, a meeting where Jenner feels she would have learned more about the abuse her friend was dealing with. “She said she wanted to show me some things and talk about what was in her safe,” explained Jenner. “And so now, unfortunately, it all makes sense that that’s what, probably, she wanted to reveal to me that next day, which broke my heart because I’ll always feel horrible that I didn’t pay enough attention.”

O.J. reached out to Kris during the trial — a phone call that she was unwilling to expand upon. But Jenner was able to share her perspective on the tragedy. “Everybody lost so much that night, you know? You lost everything you knew,” she said. “I can’t even imagine being her family, her parents, her sisters.”
