Kristen Bell and Adam Brody admit they've never seen each other's iconic teen shows: 'That one hurts'

Bell maintained that while she didn't watch "The O.C.," she "of course" had a crush on Brody at the time: "Everybody did."

Adam Brody and Kristen Bell starred in two of the most popular teen dramas of the early aughts, but that doesn't mean they're intimately familiar with each other's work.

During a recent podcast appearance, the Nobody Wants This costars awkwardly admitted that neither has ever seen an episode of the other's breakthrough show — Brody's The O.C. or Bell's Veronica Mars.

The conversation came about on Dax Shepard and Monica Padman's Armchair Expert podcast, when Shepard, who is married to Bell, asked if she could recall watching The O.C. and having a crush on Brody. "I've… never seen any episode of The O.C.," she confessed, as Brody and Shepard burst into laughter.

Thinking Brody was cute, however, was a totally different story. "Now, did I have a crush on Adam? Of course. Everybody did," she said. "I have never seen an episode of The O.C."

Brody starred as Seth Cohen — the quirky, dreamy nerd who was obsessed with comics and emo bands — across all four seasons of the Fox drama, from 2003 until 2007. Upon hearing that Bell hadn't watched The O.C., he interjected, "I've never seen an episode of Veronica Mars."

Cue disappointment from everyone in the room. "That one hurts," Bell admitted, as Shepard and Padman groaned. "That hurt?" Brody asked, to which Bell replied, "Yeah, a little bit."

Created by Rob Thomas, Veronica Mars starred Bell in the title role as a high-schooler who moonlights as a private investigator. The series, which was also narrated by Bell, initially ran for three seasons, from 2004 until 2007; it ultimately spawned a 2014 film and a 2019 fourth season.

Shepard noted that it was fine Bell hadn't seen The O.C., but said Brody never seeing Veronica Mars was "amoral." Bell added that she was "reticent to admit" that she'd never seen The O.C. because she has so many friends who worked on the show, adding, "I was really close with Rachel [Bilson], I still am."

Shepard then stepped in to come to his wife's defense. "You were in your twenties," he said. "You weren't watching a ton of TV. You were out doing life."

It was the same for Brody. "I wasn't in watching a bunch of high school shows," he explained. "I was going to the Sunset 5 [movie theater]."

Bell, however, can take comfort in the fact that Brody hasn't seen another legendary television show: The Sopranos. "But it's a goal!" he insisted. "I'm not proud of that. That's not a stance. That's an oversight. That's a missed opportunity."

Bell concluded, "I've never seen The O.C., but I adored Adam. Of course. Everybody did. Everybody does. And I continue to."
