Kristen Wiig inducted into ‘SNL’s’ Five-Timers Club by Ryan Gosling, Paul Rudd, Matt Damon and others
Kristen Wiig received a star-studded reception last night when she hosted “Saturday Night Live” for the fifth time allowing her to join the elite “Five-Timers Club.”
“I am so happy to be back, and I am so excited because it is my fifth time hosting, so I am officially in the five-timers club,” Wiig, 50, told the excited crowd.
After taking a moment to welcome the “SNL” band, the “Palm Royale” star explained the significance of the club to the gathered audience.
“So I have to say as a former cast member, it is very special being a five-timer,” Wiig said shortly before being interrupted by Paul Rudd who asks the “Bridesmaids” star if he could be part of the sketch where she gets her jacket.
“Oh! No, I’m sorry. I don’t think we’re doing one of those,” Wiig sadly tells Rudd, 55, who seems saddened by the news.
Shortly after, Paula Pell — a former writer for the comedy show — also makes an appearance.
“I just think it’s so sweet that you’re so excited about getting a five-timers jacket,” Pell, 60, jokes. “They basically hand those out to everybody like free maxi pads.”
At that point, Matt Damon — also donning a jacket despite only having hosted the show just twice —appeared.
“Hi Kristen, First off, big fan. I grew up watching you on ‘SNL’,” Damon, 53, said to a shrieking audience.
“Grew up? Watching me on ‘SNL’,” questioned Wiig jokingly realizing the math didn’t add up.
“Wait Matt, why do you have on a five-timers jacket,” the “Wonder Woman 1984” actress continued. “Haven’t you only hosted twice?”
“Yeah,” retorted an upset-looking Damon. “But Lorne said the first time I hosted was so good it counted for three and then second time, not quite as good, so it only counted for two. But by my math, it made five, baby.”
Exasperated, Wiig turns to ‘SNL’ executive producer Lorne Michaels and demands an explanation but finds that the “SNL” head honcho is surrounded by Jon Hamm, Fred Armisen, Will Forte, and Martin Short — all donning jackets despite not hosting five times.
After pointing this out, Forte, 53, says that the four of them all together have hosted 5 times.
“What is going on here? I mean, I was really excited about being in the five-timers club. Now it just seems that it’s not even that special,” Wiig said.
In an attempt to make her feel better, Damon points out that Wiig is the youngest member to join the club as well as the first female to join and Wiig points out that Emma Stone had been inducted before her and there are several women in the club.
Not being able to think of anything else, the group of men surround Wiig and sing a touching sound before Forte shouts: “Oh my god is that Ryan Gosling?”
Sure enough, the “Barbie” star is seen talking to Michaels, 79, while wearing a jacket.
“Are you sure,” Gosling, 43, says while Michales puts a finger to his lips. “I mean, I haven’t even hosted three times yet.”
The “Fall Guy” star — who is set to host the show next week — then rushes on stage to deliver Wiig her jacket.
Wiig’s appearance on the famed comedy show comes days after she reprised her iconic role as the Target lady to promote the brand’s upcoming Target Circle week.
